Our Approach

Therapy that begins with connection.

At Connection Point Psychology, we pay attention to both the concerns bringing you to therapy and the person experiencing them. Symptoms matter, and so do the relationships, experiences, and patterns beneath them. Our goal is to help you feel better, understand yourself more fully, and create changes that last.

Our Approach to Therapy

We believe people make sense when understood in the context of their lives and relationships. Even patterns that now feel painful or limiting often developed for understandable reasons. Therapy offers a place to approach those patterns with curiosity, understand what may be keeping them in place, and begin developing new ways of responding.

The relationship with your therapist is central to this process. We aim to create an environment that feels warm, honest, and engaged. Our goal is for you to feel you can speak openly, feel understood, and explore parts of yourself that may be difficult to access elsewhere.

Therapy is collaborative. Your therapist brings clinical training, experience, and perspective; you bring the lived knowledge of who you are. Together, you will shape the work around your concerns, history, goals, and individual needs.

Each therapist brings their own experience and style, while working within a shared clinical philosophy and receiving ongoing supervision, consultation, and support.

Therapy Modalities

Our therapists work relationally and tailor treatment to the needs of each client. Depending on the therapist and the work being done, treatment may draw from:

Relational and Psychodynamic Therapy

Explores how past experiences, relationships, and patterns of thinking and feeling can influence your current relationships and emotional well-being. Together, we work to develop greater self-awareness and create healthier, more fulfilling ways of relating to yourself and others.

What Therapy Looks Like

Beginning therapy can feel like a big step, especially if you are not quite sure where to start. We aim to make the process feel clear, comfortable, and approachable from the very beginning.

1.

The First Session

The first session is an opportunity to begin getting to know one another. Your therapist will ask about what brought you to therapy, what has been happening in your life, and what you hope might change. You do not need to arrive with everything figured out or share more than you are ready to.

3.

Ongoing Sessions

Sessions may include exploring current experiences, understanding past influences, noticing recurring patterns, processing difficult emotions, and developing practical ways to respond differently. Most clients attend therapy weekly to allow for consistency and momentum.

2.

Developing a Plan

During the first several sessions, you and your therapist will develop a clearer understanding of your concerns and identify the areas you would like to work on. Treatment is individualized and may evolve as new insights, needs, or goals emerge.

4.

Progress and Goals

Progress in therapy is not always linear. You and your therapist will periodically reflect on what is changing, what still feels difficult, and whether the work needs to shift. The goal is not simply to talk about the same problems, but to help you experience meaningful movement over time.

Finding the Right Fit

Finding a therapist who feels like the right fit matters.

An initial consultation gives you an opportunity to briefly share what you are looking for, ask questions, and get a sense of whether one of our therapists may be a good match.

You are welcome to ask about a therapist’s experience, approach, what sessions are typically like, and how you will evaluate progress together.

If we are not the right fit for your needs, we will be honest about that. Whenever possible, we will offer helpful resources or referrals so that you have a clearer next step.
